
Council Bluffs, IA - Rochester Community and Technical College took home their second consecutive NJCAA DIII national title by finishing as the highest scoring DIII program at the NJCAA Wrestling National Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Rochester finished with a team score of 68, which was 24 points higher than the second place team (SUNY Niagara). This is the Yellowjackets' seventh national title in program history.
The Jackets were lead by three All-Americans:
Tyson Wilson - 6th at 125
Leo Tukhlynovych - 3rd at 174
Cito Tuttle - 8th at 285
The Jackets also got contributions from Cohen Wiste, Dylan Enriquez, Hunter Gartman, Jake Aho, Kley Krause, Leighton Robb, and Payton Garza enroute to the title.
ON the way to his 3rd place finish Tukhlynovych took an opening round loss by decision (7-5) before winning 8 straight matches to earn the bronze medal. Included was a 16-1 tech fall, a fall, a 21-4 tech fall, an 11-0 major decision, a 20-6 major decision, an 8-2 decision, and then a 4-2 decision in the third place match.
Tyson Wilson won his first two matches one bye tech fall (18-3) and then a 7-1 decision, before falling 11-1. After the loss Wilson picked up a pair of wins by decision (7-4 and 13-11) wins, before falling in his final two bouts to finish 6th.
Cito Tuttle also picked up wins in his first two mathces, winning by decision 12-7 and 4-2. Tuttle then dropped his match to the #1 seed 8-2, before winning 5-1 over the #10 seed. Tuttle then fell to the #5 seed and #3 seed to finish in 8th place.
RCTC Coach Andy Hackenmueller was named the NJCAA DIII Wrestling Coach of the Year for the Jackets.
