
Worthington, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket wrestling team won the Region XIII National Qualifer scoring 131.5 points, outdistancing second place Ridgewater who scored 56. More importantly the Jackets qualified all 10 wrestlers for the NJCAA National Championships March 7th and 8th.
Tyson Wilson got the Jackets off on the right foot, winning the 125 pound weight class championship by Tech Fall (15-0) over Gabriel Michaels of Northland. Jake Aho, then earned a runner-up finish to advance at 133 winning the second place match 6-5.
The Jackets then went on a tear winning the next five weight classes. At 141 Dylan Enriquez won by Tech Fall (15-0) to advance, before Cohen Wiste won by Fall at only :55 seconds of the first period at 149. Hunter Gartmann then won by decision (7-3) at 157 to give the Jackets three in a row. Kley Krause, then won by Fall at 1:57 of the first at 165 and Leo Tukhlynovych won 7-3 at 174 for the Jackets fifth straight win.
Leighton Robb then earned a berth at the National Championships winning his second place match 13-6 at 184. Payton Garza earned a wildcard entry into the National Tournament by winning third place at 197. Garza earned a second period Fall to record the win. Citto Tuttle then closed out the Championships with a 7-2 decision to win the title at 285.
The Jackets will now head to Council Bluffs, IA on March 7th and 8th in an attempt to defend their National Title from 2024.
