
Rochester, MN - The #2 ranked RCTC Yellowjackts outlasted #1 MN West to earn a hard-fought 57-52 win in a game that featured two of the best defenses in the country. The first quarter saw the Jackets hold MN West to only 21% shooting as the hald a 13-11 lead after one. Both defenses continued to dominate in the second as the two teams combine for only 23 points and the Jackets lead 25-22 at the half. The third quarter saw the Lady Jays tighten up defensively as they held the Jackets to only 10 points and lead 38-35 heading into the final frame. The fourth quarter saw the Jackets (and Macaya Copeland) turn on the offense as they shot 62% in the frame to seal the win.
Copeland lead all scorers with 25 points in the contest. The sophomore guard added 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block in the win. Kara Goetzinger scored 15 points and had 7 rebounds for RCTC. Cassidy Shute added 7 points for RCTC. The Jackets forced 20 Lady Jay turnovers and held them to 38% shooting for the game.
The Jackets hit the road on Wednesday against MN State Fergus Falls, before returning home for the final regular season contest against Anoka-Ramsey. Saturdays game will be sophomore day for the Jackets as they recognize their second year players in their final regular season home game. Tip-off is at 1:00 on Saturday on the Performance Court.
