
Coon Rapids, MN - The #1 ranked RCTC Yellowjackets headed into the short Holiday Break with a pair of convincing wins over the weekend. The Jackets (9-3) downed Joliet Community College 85-60 on Friday, before beating NJCAA DII Bismarck State 87-45 on Saturday.
In Friday's contest Macaya Copeland got of to a great start with 18 points in the first quarter to give the Jackets an early 30-17 lead after the first. The sophomore continued her torid scoring as she ended the game with 41 points on 17-27 shooting. She was 4-7 from the three point line and 3-5 from the free throw line. Copeland added 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists to her box score. The Jackets also got 13 points and 9 rebounds from Aniyah Reuben in the game. Allana Bates and Nyomi Crushshon added 9 points a piece, while Makadyn Gust had 6. The Jackets shot 51% from the floor while holding JCC to only 34% shooting. RCTC forced 27 turnovers in the game.
On day two of the tournament it was once again Copeland leading the way with 28 points, but this time she was joined by Crushshon who was 11-18 from the floor for 24 points. Allana Bates had 11 points, while Marianna Franklin added 8 from off he bench. Once again the Jacket defense was in sync as they again forced 27 turnovers and had 17 steals. Crushshon and Gust each had 4 steals, while Franklin added 3. Jaide Pressley and Bates lead the way with 8 rebounds each, while Bates lead all players with 7 assists. The Jackets shot 49% from the floor while holding the Mystics to only 25% shooting.
After a short break for the Christmas holiday, the Jackets are back in action at the MN West New Years's Classic, December 30 and 31. RCTC will take on NDSCS, and Soutwestern Community College.
