Jackets split again on day three of the MCAC crossover

Rochester, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket softball team finished the MCAC Crossover with their third straight split.  The Jackets downed MN West 13-12 in a thrilling extra innings contest in game one, before falling 13-5 to St. Cloud in game two.

Against MN West the Jackets took the lead early, 5-0 and 8-2 before trailing late 11-8.  RCTC then scored three in the bottom of the sixth to set-up extra innings.  After MN West scored 1 in the top of the 8th RCTC got a lead off walk, followed by a Jayda Bednarek double two tie the score at 12-12.  With the bases loaded Bailey Monson came thru with a walk-off game-winning single.  Skylar Beckel had a big game for RCTC going 4-5 with a triple, 4 RBI's and 3 runs scored.  Bednarek added 3 hits, two of them doubles, while Ivette Mendoza was 2-3 with a triple and 3 RBI's.  In addition to her late game heroics, Monson was 3-5 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

Game two saw the Jackets going back and forth with the Cyclones all game.  St.Cloud lead 3-0 after two innings before Beckel hit a three run homerun in the top of the third to tie the game.  St. Cloud scored two in their half of the inning but the Jackets Presley Newcomb answered with a two-run homerun in the fourth to once again square the contest.  From their St.Cloud closed it out with four runs in both the fourth and fifth inning.  Bednarek, Alayna Leighton, and Brynn Irish each had a pair of hits for the Jackets.

RCTC is back in action on Tuesday, April 1st as the host MN West in the first conferencegame of the season.  First pitch is at 3:00pm at the RCTC Dome.
