Jackets split a pair on day one of the MCAC Crossover

Rochester, MN - The RCTC Yellowjackets are hosting the three day MCAC Crossover at the RCTC Dome this weekend, and they got the tourney off in solid fashion.  RCTC earned a split on Day One as they fell to #2 ranked and last years NJCAA Runner-up NDSCS 10-0 before winning 13-5 in six innings against MN North - Vermilion. The win in game two marked the first collegiate head coaching win for Coach Chad Schmitz.

Game one saw the Jackets play well and hold NDSCS to only 8 hits over 5 innings.  Unfortunately for the Jackets Ivette Mendoza managed the Jackets only hit in the game.  Klaudia Biel took the tough loss despite pitching well.Biel allowed 10 runs and struck out 3 in the game. Alayna Leighton had a pair of walks in two plate appearance.

Game two saw the Jackets' bats come alive as they hammered out 15 hits and scored 13 runs in winning 13-5 in six innings.  Ivette Mendoza sparked the offense as the freshman was 3-4 with 2 RBI's 2 runs scored and had a triple and two doubles.  Pitcher Sklyar Beckel helped herself at the play as she was also 3-4 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Jayda Bednarek, Holly Flom, and Brynn Irish each picked up a pair of hits, while Alayna Leighton, Irish, and Flom added 2 RBI's. Leighton had a triple while Irish and Bednarek each doubled.

Skylar Beckel earned the win in the circle going 6 innings, allowing only one hit and striking out 10.

The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Day two of the tournament.  RCTC will take on Rainy River at 9:00am and Itasca at 11:00.
