
Cleveland, OH - The RCTC Yellowjacket football tam took to the road travelling to Cleveland, OH this past weekend to take on Nassau CC in the season opener. The game proved to be a thriller as the two teams went back an forth before Nassau came away with the upset win 28-27 in overtime.
Nassau got on the board first with a 40 yard field goal in the first quarter and then followed it up with a pick 6 to take a 10-0 lead over the Jackets. Withonly 5:54 remaining in the first RCTC's Trey Ginn returned the favor with a 75 yard interception return for a TD to cut the lead to 10-7. Tony Edwards then had the first of his 2 touchdowns on the day as he went 78 yards for the score to give the Jackets their first lead of the season at 14-10 heading into halftime.
In the third quarter Nassau got another field goal, and followed it up with a TD run and 2-point conversion to take a 21-4 lead with only 6:14 remaining in the game. Edwards then scored his second TD on a 38 yard pass to knot the score at 21-21. Neither team could break through in the final 6 minutes and the game went to OT.
RCTC scored first on a 3-yard TD run from Christian Parrish, but the PAT failed, and the Jackets lead 27-21. Nassau then got a 3 yard TD run of their own setting up kicker Igor Rzaska to hit the PAT and seal the win.
RCTC is back on the road this weekend as they start conference play at Minnesota North-Vermilion on Saturday.
