
Myrtle Beach, SC - The RCTC men's baseball team went 5-5 on their annual Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach, SC last week. The Jackets faced some of the top NJCAA teams in the country and played well. RCTC is next scheduled to play on March 22nd at UW-River Falls, before traveling to Norwalk, IA for four games against MN North Division schools March 27th and 28th.
In Myrtle Beach the Jackets started with a 5-3 win over PSU Schuykill on March 12. Owen Vargas got the win in relief of Drew Yahnke. The two combined to allow only 3 runs over 7 innings. Jesus Sosa had a pair of RBI's for the Jackets, while Nate Vaughn was 2-4.
Day two saw the Jackets drop a pair of games, 4-3 to Clark State and then 7-6 to PSU Beaver CBB. In game one Sosa picked up another 2 RBI, while Caleb Beavers picked up his first RBI of the season. Ramon Teran doubled for the Jackets. Game two saw Nate Vaughn go 3-4 woith a pair of RBI's, while Owen Vargas doubled and was 2-4.
Day three saw the Jackets sweep a pair of games, 5-3 against Mercer County and 6-1 against Cairn University. Ethan Paisley picked up the win in relief of Zach Carr. Paisely went 3 innings, allowing only 1 hit and no runs. Carr had a solid start going 4 innings, allowing only 3 runs on 5 hits. The jackets bats started to come alive as Ramon Teran, Jerry Fletcher, Jacob Trusner, and Teagun Ahrens all doubled in the game. Four Jacket pitchers combined to allow only 3 hits and 1 run in game two of the day as the Jackets won 6-1. Jesus Sosa continued his strong start to the season with a double and a pair of RBI's to lead the Jackets. Dylan Balazovic had a double and 3 RBI's as well.
After a rain out on March 16th the Jackets dropped a pair on the 17th losing 10-7 to Rays Collegiate, and then 11-9 to Montogmoery College. The Jackets had 7 runs on 7 hits in the opener as Riley Forbes was 1-1 with a double and an RBI. The Jackets used 6 pitchers in the game to get their young arms some game action. Against Montgomery, Christian Revilla was 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Teagun Ahrens was 2-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
The final day of the Spring trip saw the Jackets split their squad and play 3 games. RCTC beat County College of Morris 5-2 and downed West Conn State 7-4, while losing the third game 8-3 to County College of Morris. In the Jackets 5-2 win Christian Revilla was 2-3 with 2 RBI while Ramon Teran had a triple and 2 runs scored. Ethan Paisley picked up his 3rd win of the trip allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits over 5 2/3 innings. Tyler Quackenbush picked up the save. Against Western Connecticut Bo Boettcher got the win in relief of Sam Johnston. Boettcher went 2 innings and allowed 0 earned runs, 3 hits and struck out 3. Johnston went 5 innings in his start allowing only 2 earned runs. Riley Forbes connected on his first homerun of the season, going 2-4 wth 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Boettcher helped his own cause with a pair of doubles and 2 RBI's. In the Jackets final game of the trip, an 8-3 loss to County College of Morris RCTC got a double from Jacob Trusner and a pair of hits each for Jesus Sosa and Ramon Teran.
